Student-Centered Workshops

What is it?

Our workshops focus on the success of your students by developing learning paths and solutions to meet the expectations of innovative class assignments. Workshops are developed around student skill sets, different learning styles, using technologies, and presenting information to students in a format for success.

Workshop development is a collaborative process between members of the Academic Technology Team and faculty members. Faculty member input and engagement during both the development and facilitation of the workshop lead to the best outcomes. Workshops can be delivered either in person or virtually. Specific workshop topics may come with delivery recommendations from the Academic Technology team.

The “Storytelling through…” series of workshops focuses on crafting engaging stories using a variety of media. Some commonly facilitated workshop topics include:

  • Storytelling through presentation - an interactive session that prompts students to use visual elements like color, images, and text to aid in visual storytelling that supports their verbal message.

    • Includes a 10-minute asynchronous module in Canvas (optional Quiz available).

    • Typical Workshop Request: one 75-minute session.

  • Storytelling through video - a full walkthrough on how to effectively plan, film, and edit video to capture their desired story.

    • Includes a 30-minute asynchronous module in Canvas (optional Quiz available)

    • Typical Workshop Request: two 50 or 75-minute sessions.

  • Storytelling through podcast - a scaffolded approach on how to effectively script, record, and edit narration to capture an audio story.

    • Includes a 10-minute asynchronous module in Canvas (optional Quiz available)

    • Typical Workshop Request: two 50 or 75-minute sessions.

Who can use it?

All SJU Faculty members may submit a workshop request.  All requests should be submitted at least one month before the initial possible workshop date. Providing a date range or several options as to when the workshop could occur will increase the likelihood of the Academic Technology Team being available to fulfill the request.

Where can I access this service?

Use the "Workshop Request" button to the right to start the process.  Once you have submitted your request, a member of the Academic Technology team will evaluate your request and be in touch.

Unfortunately, not all workshop requests can be fulfilled by the Academic Technology team. High volumes of requests may result in the request being declined or postponed. The Academic Technology team commits to working diligently and efficiently to process all requests and provide additional support where possible when requests are not able to be fulfilled.
