What are examples of items that are not considered capital assets?

Examples of items that may appear to be capital purchases but are not:

  • Painting
  • Carpet/tile replacement, sink and fixture refinishing
  • Service contracts
  • Repairs/improvement projects that do not increase the value and useful life of the capital asset
  • Regular maintenance, cleaning, pest extermination or other periodic maintenance
  • Annual software licenses
