About this software
Saint Joseph's University has a campus-wide license for Matlab & Simulink. The Office of Information Technology can deploy this through our management tools to University lab, classroom, and faculty/staff computers, but it also entitles users to install the suite of Mathworks applications on their personal computers.
For any personal computers you'd like to install the software on, you will need to follow all of the instructions below.
If you have an SJU-issued computer and would like to have Matlab & Simulink installed remotely for you, please submit a software request using the service request found here. You will still be required to register your @sju.edu email address with Mathworks to complete the activation, so please follow the instructions below for creating your account.
Before getting started confirm that your computer meets the minimum system requirements. This application will require a minimum of 5GB of free space to download and install, and can run upwards of 35GB of space.
Mathworks Account Creation
- Please visit the website found here.
Note: This website has been tailored by Mathworks to only work for Saint Joseph's University accounts. You must use your @sju.edu email address to register your account with Mathworks.
- First, click on the link that says, "Sign in to get started".
- If you have not already registered your email address, click on the "No Account? Create one!" link.
Note: If you have previously registered your SJU email address with Mathworks, enter it into Email field and click Next. You can skip to the next section for Downloading Matlab & Simulink.
- Next, enter your SJU email address and answer several of the questions. You will also be asked to create a password, which does not need to be your current SJU password. Follow the instructions for completing the registration, which will require you to check your SJU email and confirm the request.
- Check your @sju.edu email and complete your verification and registration.
Downloading the software
Once you've completed the registration of your SJU email address and verified your account with Mathworks, you're ready to download the software to your personal computer.
- If you're already signed into the Mathworks Account portal, you can begin the install using the "Install MATLAB" link, shown below:
- If you are no longer signed in or wish to perform the download later, you can return to the Saint Joseph's University branded Mathworks site.
- Click the "Sign in to get started".
- Enter your SJU email address and click Next.
- Enter the password you created during the registration instructions and click Sign In.
Note - remember, this isn't your SJU password
- Once you've logged in, you'll want to click the "Download Installer" option.
Note - the website will be intelligent enough to know if you're using a Mac or a PC, and will by default, present you with the download option for your computer. The example below is for a PC, but you can drop the menu down and select a different installation package.
- Click the "Download for Windows" or "Download for macOS" link.
- Depending on what browser you are using, your download will either automatically begin downloading, or you may be prompted where you'd like to download the installation file.
- Once the download has completed, you can begin the installation of the software by opening the file you just downloaded.
Installing the software
- For Windows, once you begin the installation, you will see a window appear, like the one shown below. This will disappear automatically once the files have been extracted.
- For macOS, once you open .zip file you just downloaded, it will extract the .dmg file. You'll need to open this file to initiate the install.
- Next, a window will appear asking you to enter your SJU email address. Once entered, click Next, and then also enter your password that you created for Mathworks (not your SJU password).
- Agree to the terms of the license agreement and click Next.
- Confirm your user account, followed by the Destination of where the software will install. You will then be presented with a screen to select what components of Matlab you'd like to install on your computer
REMINDER - You will need to have at least 5 gigs of free space on your computer, and upwards of 35 gigs depending on how many optional components you select to install.
- Once you've clicked Next, you'll receive a confirmation page of what you are installing, in addition to the approximate additional space that will be used on your hard drive.
- The progress bar will be shown next.
- This completes the installation of your Matlab products.
Installing Optional Toolboxes/Add-Ons
Depending what you originally had installed on your computer, you can install additional components of Matlab at a later date.
- Open Matlab on your computer
- In the menu, you will have an option for "Add-Ons". Clicking on this, or the drop-down menu, will allow you to open the "Add-Ons Explorer" to select additional toolboxes to install.
- If you decide to remove any toolboxes, you can select "Manage Add-Ons". This will show you what is currently installed.
