About this Software

Saint Joseph's University has a limited number of Educational floating licenses for the ExtendSim application.   If you are taking a class where the professor has ExtendSim assignments, you'll need to obtain the license from them.  This article will help you to install the software on your personal computer.

  1. Download the Software
  2. Install the Software
  3. Activate the Software
  4. Having Issues?

Download the Software

You can either download the latest version of the ExtendSim application from their website here: www.ExtendSim.com/products/trials/trialpro or you can download the installer from our SJU Canvas repository or SJU Google Drive. This will depend on what version can be licensed and used with the class you are taking.  Please be sure to check with your professor as to what version of the software will be used for your course and where they would like you to download it from.

Install the Software

Once downloaded, launch the ExtendSimPro10.exe installer with Administrative privileges or right-click the installer and select Run as Administrator.

Activate the Software

If you've accidentally opened ExtendSim already, you'll get this screen:

  1. First, you will need to obtain the "extendsim.lic" license file from your professor.  This is not something The Office of Information Technology will provide.
    • Note - This license file may need to be updated each year depending what version of the software your professor will be using.
  2. Copy the "extendsim.lic" file and paste it into the following location (this will vary between each user based on what username you are logging into your computer with):
    1. As an example, by default, the folder will be located here:
      C:\Users\<username>\Documents\ExtendSim10
    2. However, the <username> will be replaced by your own username.
For example, if you're logging into your computer as "John", then the path would be:
      C:\Users\John\Documents\ExtendSim10
If you're logging in as "administrator", then the path would be:
      C:\Users\Administrator\Documents\ExtendSim10
  3. Here's an example of what the folder looks like before you copy the license file:Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)

Having Issues?

Please contact your professor first if you run into any problems installing or activating ExtendSim.  You should always be sure to check the following:

  1. Make sure you have the latest license file from your professor.
  2. Make sure you have installed the correct version of ExtendSim that your professor is using (and has a corresponding license file for).
  3. You will need an active internet connection for the software to work.  The license is being checked out from one of the SJU servers.
    1. If you get an error like this below, it's because your computer cannot communicate with the SJU server:Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
  4. For support with using the software, please work with your professor, or use ExtendSim's Learning Center.
