RECORDING RECOMMENDATIONS

Audio

Use a headset or directional microphone. Test your microphone before you Record.

  • Zoom Audio options: select the ⌃ up arrow next to the Audio button.

Video

Framing

Angle your camera as if you are taking a headshot photo at or slightly above eye-level. Fill the screen and avoid leaving a lot of empty space above your head.

Lighting

Ensure your light source is in front of you, not behind you. Turn on additional lights, especially in the evening.

Video settings - in Zoom

Select the ⌃ up arrow icon next to the Video button to open Video settings and choose:

  • Blur my background

  • HD video

  • Portrait lighting

  • Adjust for low light

Internet connection

Good resolution requires a strong, stable internet connection. You’ll want to make sure you have as much bandwidth available as possible before starting your recordings.

  • Close additional software applications during your recording.

  • If your device has an ethernet port, you can improve your connection significantly by connecting to your router with an ethernet cord. If you cannot connect with an ethernet cable, you can boost your signal strength by moving closer to your router.

ZOOM RECORDING

Local and Cloud Recording

Zoom has two types of meeting recordings: local recording and cloud recording. Local recordings, which are the recordings that come standard with all Zoom accounts, are saved to your device. Cloud recordings, a paid option, are saved to the Zoom Cloud where they can be viewed, shared, and downloaded. Both options provide standard MP4 video files.

Start Recording

You start recording by pressing Record on the bottom of your Zoom meeting window. If you have cloud recording enabled, a pop-up will appear above asking what kind of recording you want: Cloud or Local. You’ll know recording has begun because a red light will appear in the upper left corner of your Zoom window with the words “Stop Recording.” Click that when you’re ready to stop the recording.

Local Recordings

Your local recordings are stored on your hard disk. By default, they’re in your Documents folder in a file marked zoom. Here are more details on finding your local recordings

Cloud Recordings

If you opt for cloud recording, you get a high quality recording of your meeting delivered to the cloud, which you can share and download. You can find your cloud recordings by logging in to your account at zoom.us/signin and clicking on My Recordings. More information on using cloud recording.
