What data can I use in AI tools?

Our Data Classification Policy informs decision making when submitting information and/or queries into AI platforms.

We’ve provided a quick reference below on how both the Data Classification Policy and various AI tools should be viewed together.

Data Use in University-Approved AI Tools

• Sensitive and unrestricted University data can be used in approved AI tools. Some examples of sensitive data are: class lists, names/addresses, and SJU email addresses. A list of University-approved AI tools can be found below.
• Note: There is no change to our current practice regarding the disclosure of Personally Identifiable Information (PII). PII includes (but is not limited to) Social Security Numbers (SSNs), personal email addresses, home addresses, and/or phone numbers.

Data Prohibited from Use in AI Tools

• Protected Health Information (PHI) may not be used with AI tools except where approved in our Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system.
