We've compiled a list of FAQs directly from Zoom as well as questions our team has been asked as part of the implementation. We will continue to update this article over time!
Q: What is a softphone?
A: Softphones are a software-based application that allows you to initiate and receive voice calls over the internet using a computer, smartphone, or tablet rather than a physical phone.
Q: Will I have a physical phone?
A: We are evaluating softphone solutions that remove the requirement for a physical handset and offer features such as call handling from a computer or mobile device, voicemail-to-email, call forwarding, presence indicators, and seamless integration with collaboration tools. Softphone solutions allow you to make and receive phone calls via computer or smartphone over the Internet. For most users, our current NEC desktop phones will no longer be needed.
Q: Do I need to have Zoom open all the time?
A: Yes, the Zoom application must be open at all times for the softphone client to operate.
Q: I work in the VDI environment. Does anything need to be installed?
A: Zoom Workplace is already installed on the SJU VDI environment.
Q: Will the new Zoom Phone solution replace Microsoft Teams in Lancaster?
A: Yes, Zoom Phones will replace MS Teams.
Q: Does calling 9-1-1 require an additional 9 in front of it?
A: No! Just call 911.
Q: Will we have SMS texting?
A: SMS texting is not currently included. It may be a feature enhancement in the future.
