You can organize your emails by setting up labels. Labels work like folders, but you can add more than one label to a message.
Add a label to a message
1. Add a label to a single message:
- Open the Gmail app
- Open a message. (If you want to stay in your inbox, tap the sender's profile image.)
- In the top right, tap More Change labels.
- Check the boxes next to the labels you want to add.
- In the top right, tap Done
2. Add a label to multiple messages:
- Open the Gmail app
- On the left, tap the sender's profile image next to the messages you want to label.
- In the top right, tap More Change labels
- Check the boxes next to the labels you want to add.
- In the top right, tap Done
3. Move a message to another label:
- Open the Gmail app
- Open the message. (If you want to stay in your inbox, tap the sender's profile image.)
- In the top right, tap More Change labels
- Uncheck the boxes next to the current labels, then select new labels.
- In the top right, tap Done
4. Automatically label messages:
If you want to automatically add labels to specific messages, such as from a certain sender, follow these steps.
- Open the Gmail app
- In the top left, tap Menu
- Scroll to the bottom, then tap Settings.
- Tap your account.
- Tap Label settings, then tap a label name. If you don't see a label you want to use, create a new label first.
- Tap Add.
- In the "From" field, type a name or email address. To add more search criteria, like a subject or keyword, tap And.
- In the top right corner, tap Save.
Note: Only new messages that match these criteria will be automatically added to the label.
Create, edit & delete labels:
1. Create a label:
- Open the Gmail app
- Tap the Menu
- In the "Labels" section, tap Create new.
- Type a name.
- Tap Done.
