Building a New Course Using a Template

To Import a Canvas Course Template from Canvas Commons

There are two ways to import a Canvas course template from Canvas Commons into your course space.

  1. In Canvas, in the global navigation on the left, click Commons. If you have not used Commons before, you will need to accept the Terms of Use.

  1. In the Search field, enter the template name (ie., SJU Online Course Template or SJU Face-to-Face Course Template). Canvas Commons search field

  2. To access SJU-specific resources, click Filter, and select Saint Joseph's University in the "Shared With" area.

  1. Click the blue template title.

  2. On the right side of the next screen, click Import/Download. Commons Import/download button

  3. Select the course(s) into which you want to import the template.

Import into Canvas appears on the right side of the screen, with a field into which you can enter text to narrow your search for the course you want to import the template into

  1. Click Import into Course. Allow a few minutes for the template to appear in your course.

 

Another option is to import the template from within your course.

  1. Open the course that you want to add the template.

  2. Click on Import from Commons on the right side of the screen. If you have not used Commons before, you will need to accept the Terms of UseImport from Commons button in Canvas

  3. Follow steps 2-6 listed above.
