Instructors - How to create a meeting using the Zoom App within Canvas:

Unlike Blackboard, the Zoom App is integrated directly with Canvas.  This means you no longer have to leave the Canvas interface to create your Zoom Meetings at sju.zoom.us when creating a Zoom Meeting for your course.

Once logged into Canvas:

  1. Click on the course you wish to set up your Zoom session in.
  2. Click on the Zoom link in the course menu.
  3. If this is your first time using the Zoom App, you will need to authenticate to your Zoom account using your SJU credentials.
  4. Create a Zoom meeting for your class. Create the Meeting Topic and set the appropriate meeting settings.
  5. Once the meeting has been created and if the course is published, students will receive a notification that a meeting has been scheduled.  This notification includes the Zoom meeting Join URL.  Additionally, the meeting and Join URL are added to the course calendar and syllabus. This is where students will be able to access and join the Zoom Meeting.

Some quick notes about the Zoom App and how it works for instructors and students:

  1. The Zoom course menu item is also viewable to students. The student will simply need to click the Join button to enter the Zoom meeting. If this is the first time they have used Zoom, they will be prompted to download the software automatically. They will not need to log in to Zoom to join the meeting.
  2. The Zoom course menu item can be used by the instructor to schedule meetings, access recordings, and Start their sessions. This means that you no longer have to log in to sju.zoom.us and start your meeting.
