How do I organize my Gmail inbox using labels on your Android device using the Gmail app?

You can organize your emails by setting up labels. Labels work like folders, but you can add more than one label to a message.

 

Add a label to a message you are reading:

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Gmail app

  1. Tap your email or tap and hold to select multiple emails.
  2. At the top right, tap the More button then "Label as".

  1. Check the boxes next to the labels you want to add.
  2. At the bottom of the "Label as" menu, tap OK.

 

Move a message to another label:

  1. Open the Gmail app.
  2. Open the email you want to move, or select it in your inbox. 
  3. Click the More button than, Move to
  4. Choose the label you want to move the email to.

Create a label:

  1. Open the Gmail app.
  2. At the top left, tap Menu.
  3. Under "All labels," tap Create label.
  4. Enter a label name.
  5. Tap Save.

Edit a label:

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Gmail app.
  2. At the top left, tap Menu, then Settings.

 

  1. Select your account.
  2. Tap Manage labels.
  3. Select the label you want to edit.
  4. Tap Name.
  5. Create a new name.
  6. Tap Done.

Delete a label:

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Gmail app.
  2. At the top left, tap Menu, then Settings.
  3. Select your account.
  4. Tap Manage labels.
  5. Select the label you want to delete.
  6. Tap Delete.
