Background Check Process for Merging Employees

Background Checks

Saint Joseph's University complies with Act 153 regulations and requires a full set of background checks for all employees upon hire. You can review our Interim Background Check Policy here for full information. Those employees who need to obtain one or more background checks prior to the merger close date have been contacted directly with instructions on how to obtain and submit the required documents.

A few important points to remember:

  • Results for the FBI fingerprint check will either be emailed to you or mailed to your home address via USPS
    • If results are emailed: you only have one opportunity to download the FBI results, so be prepared to download and save them as soon as you receive the email. This email typically comes within 1-2 business days if there are no reportable results.
    • Results sent in the mail can take 2-3 weeks to receive.
    • SJU does NOT receive a copy of your results for this clearance, so please email your results to humanresources@sju.edu as soon as you receive them.
    • If any reportable results are found, the HR team will review them on an individual basis and consult with the Office of General Counsel as needed.
  • Results for the Child Abuse and Criminal Checks are received within 2 business days and SJU also receives a copy.
  • We will accept employment clearances with expiration dates beyond April 1, 2024. (Note that your clearances are compliant for 5 years from the date they were last run.)
    • If you have current background clearances (as defined above) and would like to provide those or check if they are acceptable, please email humanresources@sju.edu
      • The FBI fingerprinting clearance MUST be from the Department of Human Services - We cannot accept FBI Clearances from the Department of Education or the Department of Justice.

Any questions regarding required paperwork or tasks required prior to the merger close date can be directed to humanresources@sju.edu.
