Legend: In order to better understand your 1098-T, we are furnishing you with a breakdown of what the 1098-T boxes represent.

(A) Filer’s Information
Saint Joseph's University name, address and telephone number

(B) Filer’s Federal Identification Number
Saint Joseph's University’s taxpayer identification number (TIN)

(C) Student’s Social Security Number
Student’s Social Security Number: Changes or corrections to your social security number must be made in person at the Registrar's Office (Barbelin 106).

(D) Student’s Name & Address
This is the name and current address of the student. If requested by the 1098-T form,  your 1098-T is mailed to your billing address that is maintained by you on TheNest. If you do not have a billing address, then it will be mailed to your permanent address. If you do not have a permanent address then it will be mailed to your local address. Changes to your address can be updated via the pdf Change of Information form.

Box (1): Payments Received for Qualified Tuition & Related Expenses
The IRS gives the university the option of providing information in either Box (1) or Box (2). Saint Joseph's University has opted to provide information in Box (2).

Box (2): Amounts Billed for Qualified Tuition & Related Expenses (QTRE)
Box (2) will show the total tuition and related fees required for enrollment or attendance at an eligible educational institution. These tuition and related expenses are those that were billed between January 1st and December 31st of the tax year which includes the qualified tuition and related expenses incurred.  Note Spring courses are billed November/December of the previous year.  If registration did not occur until after January 1st then the tuition will appear on your 1098-T in the year for which it was billed.

Box (3): Adjustments Made for a Prior Year
Box (3) represents any reductions to tuition and fees made during the current year for the prior year.

Box (4): Scholarships and Grants
Box (4) includes scholarships and grant aid awarded and posted to your student account between January 1st and December 31st, which includes the Spring, Summer, Fall terms.

Box (5): Adjustments Made to Scholarships or Grants for a Prior Year
Box (5) represents any reductions made to Grants or Scholarships in the current year for the prior year.

Box (6) will be checked if:
The amount in Box (1) or Box (2) includes amounts for an academic period beginning in January through March. This is because the educational tax credits are allowed for qualified education expenses paid in the first 3 months.

Box (7): The reporting institution (Saint Joseph's University) is not required to provide information in this box.

Box (8): Box (8) will be checked if the student was enrolled at least half-time (minimum of 6 credits) during any academic period beginning in 2004.

Box (9): Box (9) will be checked if the student was enrolled exclusively in a program leading to a graduate degree, certificate or other graduate credential.
