Compliance Trainings in Bridge

Body

Overview

Twice per year (typically in February and October), the Offices of Information Technology (OIT) and Human Resources will each launch compliance training programs which are mandatory for all faculty, staff and those with guest account privileges. These will come as two separate programs, accessible through Bridge.

The goal of the OIT training is to raise security awareness among members of the SJU community on such topics as email and phishing, safe web browsing, social engineering, creating strong passwords, and data security. Each semester's training should only take about 10 minutes to complete.

The Human Resources program typically contains important information about emergency preparedness, conflicts of interest, and Clery Act information. The full program will usually take about 1 hour to complete.

As a reminder, in Bridge you can always start and stop these courses at your convenience and it will save your progress.

What do I need to do?

Announcements will be sent prior to the launch of any compliance program, detailing the topics and due dates for each assigned program. You can access the training programs using Bridge, the University's learning management platform for employees (accessible via this link or in the Employee tab of the Nest). You must complete the courses prior to the stated deadline for each program. You will be prompted in the Nest as a reminder to complete all trainings.

If the deadline passes and you have not completed the training, your access to resources in the Nest will be blocked until you complete the programs. Eventually, access to all information resources will be blocked until you complete the courses.

I'm having some issues...(FAQs)

I don't have 2-3 hours to complete these trainings right now, or at any time. Do I have to complete these?

  • Yes. All of these trainings are mandatory for all employees each year. These trainings do not all have to be completed at the same time, though. Bridge will auto-save your progress within each course, so you can stop and start these courses at any time, or do one course at a time. You have 2 weeks to complete the IT courses and 4 weeks to complete the HR courses.
  • If you do not complete these courses before the deadlines, you will lose access to The Nest. If the courses remain incomplete, eventually your access to all information resources will be blocked until you complete the courses.

I've clicked on the course, but nothing happens - how can I complete the course?

  • This is likely due to a popup blocker. Certain browsers have Popup blockers enabled by default. If the Popup is blocked you will likely see a similar message to what follows: “We attempted to launch your course in a new window, but a popup blocker is preventing it from opening.” Underneath that message in the browser you should see a button that says “Launch Course.” Click that button to open the training in a new window to be able to start the course.
  • If you've disabled your popup blocker and are still experiencing this, or if Bridge gives you an "Oh Snap! Something went wrong." error, you should first close out all of your browser windows and re-open Bridge.

I completed a course/program - how can I tell I'm marked as "completed" and won't be locked out?

  • On each program page, you'll see the list of courses you must complete. Incomplete courses will have a red icon to the left of the course name, and below the title it will inform you of the due date. Once the course is completed, the icon changes to a gray checkmark, and below the title you will see the date that you completed that course.
  • Your courses will be marked as completed as soon as you finish each course. The full program may take 5-10 minutes to fully update as completed. It may take up to 1 hour to restore access to The Nest or other systems once you have completed all courses in the program. This process is automatic and you do not need to do anything once you have completed all of the courses in the program.

I’m a manager, how can I see if my team has completed the trainings?

  • Managers can review their team’s progress and outstanding items in Bridge by following the instructions in our knowledge base.
