Overview
As part of the “Create Job Requisition” process, hiring managers will be required to insert the job description (in People Admin what we referred to as the Position Description). Here are the best practices when providing a job description in Workday.
Job Description Summary
The Job Description Summary is a required field as part of requesting a job requisition. It will be marked with a red *, indicating it is required. This summary should be no longer than a paragraph (roughly 6 sentences) that gives an overview of the job duties. In addition to job duties, this could also include where the job reports to and the amount of hours/week (especially for part-time roles).
Job Description
The Job Description is a required field as part of requesting a job requisition. It will be marked with a red *, indicating it is required. A Job Description should be separated by headings with a list of bullets under each heading. Headings should include:
- Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Secondary Duties & Responsibilities
- Minimum Qualifications (broken between Required and Preferred)
- Physical Requirements
- Unusual Work Hours
- Any required documents the candidate should upload (including resume and cover letter; Workday does not automatically require any attached documents)
Workday has formatting options built in. For each of the headings listed above, select Heading 2 under Format. Then select the bullet option to list the related items.
A job description and its parts are what you will evaluate candidates against and ultimately what you will hold the future incumbent accountable for. Be especially mindful of the Minimum Qualifications. All candidates that meet the required minimum qualifications must be reviewed and considered before you can prioritize preferred qualifications.
If you need assistance evaluating a candidate, please reach out to Human Resources. Re-read your job description for inclusive language, including but not limited to considering what the minimum degree requirements should be and what the physical demands of the position will regularly include.
If there are questions or concerns regarding your job description, Human Resources will follow up with you before pushing a request through.
