Grants for Undergraduate Students
Grant aid is gift aid that does not need to be paid back. Grant aid can include the following: Pell grants, SEOG (Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant), or Pennsylvania State grants. Institutional grants at Saint Joseph´s University are awarded to students at the time of admission.

Institutional grants at Saint Joseph´s University are awarded to students based on their high school performance, achievement, and need. Beginning with Fall 2016, the Regis Grant is awarded to eligible incoming Freshmen. Eligibility will be re-assessed each year. For grant consideration students must submit a FAFSA.

Federal
Federal Pell Grant Program
The largest federal need-based student aid program providing grant assistance ranging from $692 to $6895 to undergraduate students who are enrolled in a degree or certificate program and have not received their first bachelor´s degree. Eligibility is based on demonstrated financial need, cost of education, and enrollment status. The amount of the student´s award is determined using the Federal Institutional Student Information Record (ISIR), Expected Family Contribution (EFC), and the Payment Schedule provided by the U.S. Department of Education.
Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG)
Provides grant assistance to students with exceptional financial need. In awarding Supplemental Grants, priority is given to Pell Grant recipients with the highest demonstrated financial need.
State
PA State Grant
The Pennsylvania State Grant Program is administered by the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency (PHEAA). It provides grant assistance to undergraduate students enrolled in at least a two-year program, who are Pennsylvania residents, and who are enrolled at least half time. Eligibility is based on financial need as determined by PHEAA, and 2022-23 year awards range between $500 and $5,750. Eligible students who, in their senior year, enroll for nine or more credits in one of their last two semesters may receive a full-time PA Grant even though they are not enrolled full time. Reduced tuition cost must be reported to the agency and may result in adjustment to the grant amount. Recipients must also be Pennsylvania high school graduates or have a Pennsylvania GED. Receipt of PA State Grant assistance may not exceed the equivalent of eight semesters of full-time awards. The filing deadline each upcoming academic year is May 1. PA State Grant recipients who have received two full-time semesters of awards must complete 24 credits. Part-time students must typically complete a minimum of 6 credits for each semester of part-time PA Grant aid received. Satisfactory academic progress for PA State Grant purposes in reviewed in August/September for the prior academic year.
