Disconnecting and Returning your desk phone

Disconnecting your desk phone

Before disconnecting your desk phone, verify how your computer or docking station is connected to the network. Some phones are "daisy-chained", meaning the network connection runs:

Wall / Network Jack Desk Phone Computer / Docking Station

If your phone is connected in this way:

  1. Locate the ethernet cable connected to the back of your desk phone. This is the cable that runs from the wall to the phone.
  2. Unplug that cable from the back of your desk phone.
  3. Connect the same cable directly to the network/networking port on your docking station.
  4. Confirm that your computer remains connected to the network before disconnecting or removing the phone.  Your computer's network connection should remain active once the ethernet cable is connected directly to the docking station.
  5. The cable connected to the phone's "PC" port can remain with the phone.

If your computer or docking station has an ethernet cable connected directly to the wall / network jack, no changes are needed. You can simply unplug your desk phone.

If you are unsure which cable or port to use you can leave the phone as is and IT will assist! Please contact the Technology Service Center at 610-660-2920.  The Zoom Phones project team will be in touch regarding collection of the old desk phones.
