What is Canvas Commons?
Commons is a learning object repository. You can think of Commons as a digital library that allows Canvas users to find, import and share learning resources with other instructors here at SJU.
What types of learning objects are available in Commons?
The resources available in Commons are: courses, modules, assignments, quizzes, discussions, pages, documents, videos, audio and images.
What are the uses of Commons at SJU?
Commons will allow SJU Faculty to share their learning object with other faculty here at SJU or find learning objects created by other faculty at SJU and beyond. Some of the things you can do with commons are:
Create a personal learning object repository
Build a course from scratch with relevant materials shared by other Canvas users
Create a name for yourself and your institution as a subject matter expert
Will I be able to share my learning objects beyond SJU?
While Canvas Commons does allows users to share their content with others beyond the SJU community, we have opted to turn that feature off until we better understand the implications and develop policies and procedures to support the sharing of your content with the world.
What are groups and should I have one?
Groups allow you to share content through the Commons and limit who can access your content. Content shared to a group may be imported by members of the group. Groups are currently available on an Ad-Hoc Basis with limited automated enrollment capability. Groups may be beneficial if your department or program utilizes course templates or masters to populate courses. You can submit a

through our Service Catalog.
