Which computers are available for student use?
SJU has different types of computer labs for different purposes:
- Open/public computer labs, such as those found in the library complex
- Large classroom computer labs
- These are generally open throughout the week during the fall and spring semesters. Access is not guaranteed, for example when classes are in session.
- Typically these have software requested by the instructors who teach in these rooms.
- Scientific teaching labs
- Contain smaller numbers of computers with specialty software used with specific instrumentation.
- Consult with your instructor for access outside of scheduled class time.
- Scientific research labs
- Managed by individual instructors who conduct research projects.
- Consult with your instructor for which research spaces are available.
Where can I find a computer to use at SJU?
SJU Libraries
SJU has three library buildings. The Hawk Hill library complex is comprised of two buildings: The Drexel Library, and the Post Learning Commons. University City has the J.W. England Library. Hawk Hill
- Post Learning Commons, 1st Floor: 50 workstations (30 Windows PCs, 20 Apple iMacs)
- Post Learning Commons, 2nd Floor: 21 workstations (5 Windows PCs, 16 Apple iMacs)
- "Digital Media Zone" - enhanced computer specifications, intended for digital media creations
- 2 of the 16 iMacs are located in private study rooms (no reservation required, first come basis)
- Drexel Library, 1st Floor open area: 49 workstations (40 Windows PCs, 9 Apple iMacs)
- Drexel Library, 1st Floor "Instructional Lab": 30 Windows PCs
- Unavailable during room bookings
University City
- J.W. England Library: 38 Windows PCs
- 1st Floor: 20 workstations
- 2nd Floor: 17 workstations
- 3rd Floor: 1 workstation
Special Purpose / Restricted Spaces
These spaces are designated for special programs or may have access granted only to specific groups.

- Commuter Lounge (Simpson Hall / The Perch): 3 Windows PCs
- Honors Lounge (Claver House, 1st Floor): 4 Windows PCs
- Athlete Center for Enrichment (Bellarmine Hall G30): 10 workstations (2 Windows PCs, 8 Apple iMacs)
- Writing Center (Merion Hall 162): 8 workstations (2 Windows PCs, 6 Apple iMacs)
- Esports Lab (Merion Hall 175): 24 Windows gaming PCs
University City
- Writing Center (Alumni Hall 108): 4 Windows PCs
General Use Classroom Computer Labs
These locations are typically open for general use during the fall and spring semesters, but access is not guaranteed. They are unavailable during schedule class times.
In addition to basic basic software titles, they may contain software requested by the instructors teaching in these rooms.
