Request to be Billed Per Credit

What Is it:

SJU does not have a “part time” status in the Undergraduate Day program. Students in the Undergraduate Day program are expected to enroll in SJU full-time.

There are only two exceptions to this policy:

1) Medical Exception: Students who have medical documentation on file with the University indicating that they should attend SJU on a reduced load for health reasons in a specific semester. To submit documentation, please be in touch with Dr. Patricia Gregg (pgregg@sju.edu), Director of Student Disability Services.

2) Final Courses Exception: Students who are in their final semester at SJU and need fewer than 4 courses to complete their degree requirements. (Only applies in Fall and Spring semesters.)

3) Out of Sequence in Professional Programs Exception: Students in professional programs in the School of Health Professions who cannot progress without repeating fewer than 12 credits in a particular semester

In these cases, Undergraduate Day students can use this form to request that they be billed by credit for their tuition while they attend on a reduced load.

Before it can be reviewed, an application to be billed by credit requires:

1) For medical exception: Students must have medical documentation on file with the University indicating that it is medically recommended that they attend SJU on a reduced schedule for a specific semester.

2) For students in their final semester at SJU: Students must be (a) registered for their final classes, (b) DegreeWorks must be showing they have completed or are completing all degree requirements (primary major, 120 credits, GEP requirements including free electives, and any minors). If DegreeWorks does not show readiness for degree (a.k.a. shows anything other than green “completed” checks and blue “in progress” half-circles in all areas), students should consult with their advisor to fix any errors to have any relevant exceptions entered, or add any needed courses.

In cases where a student’s degree will be completed, but DegreeWorks updates cannot be done ahead of time by a department, students should upload confirmation from their advisor, department chair, or program director (for instance, an email) that the degree will be complete with the currently enrolled courses to the form.

3) For students out of sequence in Professional Programs in the School of Health Professions: Faculty or Program Advisor approval is required prior to submitting a request.  Evidence of this approval (for instance advisor's email) must be submitted with request form indicating need to take a reduced load to progress in their program.

Students must also be registered for courses before making this request.

Applications without required documentation will be denied.

Note that approval to pay by credit is by semester. Requests must be submitted each semester a student is eligible to pay by credit, and should be submitted after enrolling in courses.

Who can use it?

Students with medical documentation for reduced load, students in their final semester with fewer than 4 courses/12 credits to complete degree, or students in Professional Programs in the School of  Health Professions with approved plans for remedying out of sequence situations.
