Steps to Keep Working

In the event that routine work or academic functions are disrupted due to prolonged campus or building closures, you may find it necessary to work from off campus. Please take the necessary steps to ensure that you have the necessary resources to work remotely.  These resources include a university-provisioned personal computer, preferably a laptop*, access to broadband internet services and, for some, access to VPN and Azure MFA services.  For Lancaster employees, please ensure you have the Horizon client installed on your personal computer.

*If your university-provisioned computer is a desktop, please feel free to take it home to work remotely.

Prepare Early

  • Please spend some time reading through the following items carefully to ensure a smooth and productive working off-campus experience.
  • Check your tech readiness in advance.

Meetings

  • Zoom - A cloud-based, full featured web, video , and audio conferencing service which allows online meetings and webinars. Zoom makes it easy to share screens and host real-time video conversations.

Google Workspace

Collaboration platforms empower you to work with peers from different locations, and since your work is stored in the cloud you can access it from anywhere with an internet connection. Google Workspace is web-based and accessible via the internet.

Virtual Private Network (VPN) and Azure multi-factor Authentication

  • VPN and Azure MFA are necessary if employees need to access administrative forms in Banner, Cognos reports or Banner document management.
  • VPN is not required to access most University resources such as SJU Gmail, the Nest, Canvas, Zoom, Starfish and Degree Works.
  • If you do not have VPN, request VPN access through your Supervisor

Forward your Campus Phone to your Cell Phone

  • Please access all of your options for handling your campus phone here.
  • When working remotely, you can forward your campus phone and answer those calls on your cell phone using these instructions.
  • You can hide your cell phone number when making outbound calls using these instructions.

Access Your SJU Voicemail

  • You can have your voicemails delivered by email. Once configured, you will receive an email with an attached sound file whenever someone leaves a voicemail on your line. Please use this form to request this.
