Eligibility
The HSA plan is only available to those on the HDHP Personal Choice plan. If you have selected the HMO medical plan or have other medical insurance, you are not eligible to participate in the HSA.
Additionally, if you answer "yes" to ANY of the below questions, you are not eligible to contribute to the HSA, nor will an HSA be opened on your behalf:
- Can you be claimed as a dependent on another person's tax return?
- Are you enrolled in Medicare Part A and/or Part B?
- Do you have any additional health coverage under another plan?
- Are you covered by a general purpose Health Care Flex (FSA) or Health Reimbursement Account (HRA)?
Updating Your HSA
- On your home page, click on your app menu or "View All Apps"
- Click on the "Benefits and Pay" app
- At the top of the screen under "Tasks and Reports", click on "Change Benefits":
- This will produce a pop-up window that allows you to select the reason for changing your benefits. Select "HSA Changes":
- Add in Benefit Event Date - please make sure this date is either today or in the future; you cannot change your HSA savings retroactively.
- Hit Submit
- There will be a pop-up that states you are ready to start your new benefits elections. Click "Open", then "Let's Get Started".
- You will be taken to a screen to review and update your HSA. Click "Manage":
- This will take you to the initial screen to select or waive the HSA. Make sure the HSA is selected and click "Confirm and Continue":
- The next screen allows you to choose your contributions either as a biweekly or annual rate. You will see your estimated contributions already made this year at the top of the page
- Please keep in mind the HSA maximums set by the IRS each year, which are listed on the right side of the page in Workday for your reference.
- Any contributions to an HSA plan at another employer besides SJU also count towards the IRS maximum. Please make sure to take into account any contributions you made earlier in the year at another employer when calculating your HSA contributions against the IRS maximum.
- Make sure you note the "Number of Paychecks", as this is what will calculate the annual/biweekly (our payroll has 26 paychecks per year).
- Once that is populated, you can put in either a biweekly OR annual contribution amount (the other will auto-populate based on the number of paychecks).
- Once you have completed your election, click "Save" at the bottom.
- This will take you back to the main update page. Click "Review and Sign".
- Next is a summary page with an important legal notice. Once you have reviewed this entire page, click the "I Accept" check box at the bottom and then click "Submit" to finalize your changes.
