Sending mail from an alias (persona) in Outlook

Enable IMAP for Gmail

  • Open a web browser and login to your email at www.gmail.com
    • Once logged in to your email, click on the gear icon (1)
    • Click on Settings (2)

  • Click on Forwarding and POP/IMAP (3)
    • Click on the Enable IMAP radio button (4)
    • Click on the Save Changes button (5)

Setup Outlook 2010 Persona

  • In Outlook, click the File tab. (1)
    • Under Account Information, click the Add Account button. (2)

  • Select the “Manually configure server settings or additional server types” radio button (3)
    • Click Next. (4)

  • Select Internet E-mail. (5)
    • Click Next. (6)

  • Enter the fields using the screenshot below as a guide. (7)
    • Your Name: Enter a name for the alias. Ex: techhelp@sju.edu or SJU Tech Help
    • E-mail Address: Enter the alias here. Ex: techhelp@sju.edu
    • Account Type: IMAP
    • Incoming mail server: imap.gmail.com
    • Outgoing mail server (SMTP): smtp.gmail.com
    • User Name: Enter your full SJU email address here. Ex: wendrizz@sju.edu
    • Password: Enter the password for your Nest account.
    • Select the checkbox for “Require login using Secure Password Authentication (SPA)” (8)
    • Click on the More Settings … button (9)

  • Click on the Outgoing Server tab (10)
    • Select the checkbox for “My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication” (11-a)
    • Select the radio button for “Use same settings as my incoming mail server” (11-b)
    • Click on the Advanced tab (12)

  • Select SSL from the first drop down menu (13)
    • Select TLS from the second drop down menu (14)
    • Input “587” for “Outgoing server (SMTP):” (15)
    • Click OK (16)

  • Click Next (17)

  • Click Close (18)

  • Click Finish (19)
