When I print from Google Chrome, my print jobs do not show up at the printer

Notes

This problem originated when Google Chrome version 80 was released.  While most computers, if not all, should be running a newer version at this point, the information below may still be relevant for anyone running an old version, or if the same issue presents itself in any new versions of Chrome that are released moving forward.

Google released version 80 of it's browser, Chrome, February 4th.  It has been confirmed that with this release, when users are trying to print directly from Chrome and they are also using the HawkPrint program, their jobs do not appear at the printer when they swipe their ID card.  This has been reported as a bug with Google who indicated a fix would be released as soon as Monday, February 10th.  Until then, there are several ways to fix this.

1)  Instead of printing a document directly from Google Chrome, save the file to the computer you are using.  By default, the files you download will save to your "Downloads" folder.  Once you open this folder, double-click the file to open it in its native application.  For example, if it is a Word document, it will open in Microsoft Word.  From there, you will be able to successfully print, swipe your card at the printer, and release your jobs.

2) Use a different browser, such as Mozilla Firefox or Internet Explorer.

3) If you would prefer to use Google Chrome, here are a few steps to follow as another work around:

  • Click on your Start Menu followed by the Gear icon

  • Next, click on "Devices"

  • On the left, click on "Printers & Scanners"

  • Left-click on the "HawkPrint on punifsapp1vsc" and select "Manage".

  • Left-click "Printing Preferences"

  • Left-click "Advanced" (far right tab):

  • Scroll down to "Driver" and expand.  Select "PostScript Pass-through:" and set it to "DISABLED".  Click "Apply" and "OK".  You can exit out of any other windows still open.

  • IMPORTANT - if you have any Google Chrome windows open, you need to exit out of ALL of them.  Once relaunched, you will be able to successfully print again from Google Chrome.
