While ChatGPT and Claude are not approved for enterprise use at SJU, employees may still be accessing them through personal accounts. By default, these tools may use submitted data to improve performance, we encourage you to change settings to limit or opt out of data usage for training.

Body

While neither OpenAI's ChatGPT nor Anthropic's Claude are currently approved for enterprise use at SJU, we understand that employees may be using free or paid versions with a personal account. By default, these tools may use your data to improve performance and capabilities. However, you have the option to prevent AI tools from using your data for this purpose.

Why is it important to turn off Training?

If you turn off training, your interactions will not be used to improve the AI. This helps maintain your privacy and control over your data.

Important: AI vendors revise policies and settings from day to day; changes to policies, options, and settings may occur at any time.

ChatGPT

Training

To stop free ChatGPT from using your conversations for training, navigate to Settings > Data Controls and toggle off "Improve the model for everyone". This prevents your data from being used to train OpenAI's models. You can also use Temporary Chat (accessible via the chat model dropdown) to prevent specific chats from being saved or used for training

To stop paid ChatGPT (Plus/Team) from using your data to train its models, toggle off "Improve the model for everyone" in Settings > Data Controls. You can also disable chat history to prevent data retention.

Memory

ChatGPT may use relevant details from your saved memories or recent chats to improve how it rewrites your query for search. You can turn saved memories off on your profile.

Claude

To stop Claude from using your data for training, navigate to Settings > Privacy and toggle off both "Help improve Claude" AND "Location metadata". This applies to both free and paid accounts, ensuring your conversations are not used for future model training.
