Azure Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)

What is it?

SJU provides multi-factor authentication (MFA) to help protect students and employees and the data they have access to.

MFA combines multiple elements (or factors) unique to you to protect your account. These elements can include things you know (e.g. a password or PIN), things you have (e.g. a smartphone or security key), or things that you are (e.g. a fingerprint or other biometric information). At SJU, the first factor is a password that only you know. The second factor is a device - such as a smartphone or token - that the account owner has possession of.

MFA protects against phishing, social engineering, and password brute-force attacks and secures your account from attackers exploiting weak or stolen credentials. With MFA, your password alone is no longer enough to access your account, dramatically improving account security.

Who can use it?

SJU faculty, staff, and students.
