If you have an NEC Dterm Series E phone you may notice that, since the restoration of the telephone system, you have lost two features. These are 1) your 'speed dial' buttons (particularly to Voicemail) and 2) your Microphone that allows callers to hear you when you are using your speaker rather than your handset. If you experience a problem with either of these, please follow these instructions to restore your features.
To program your Voicemail button to call your Voice Mailbox with a single key press:
1) Press the black 'Feature' button (it will light red).
2) Press the button you wish to program (i.e the one labeled 'Voicemail', which for most users is the lower right of the round clear buttons above the keypad and below the display).
3) Dial 4295.
4) Press the Feature button again.
The display will show "SPEED SET" and the red light on the Feature button will turn off.
If you have any other speed dial numbers that are not operational. Please follow the same basic instructions:
1) Press the black 'Feature' button (it will light red).
2) Press the button you wish to program (i.e whichever round clear button you wish to program).
3) Dial the speed dial number (4 digit campus extension or 9 + the desired ten digit number).
4) Press the Feature button again.
The display will show "SPEED SET" and the red light on the Feature button will turn off.
To check (and activate) your Microphone:
1) Look at your phone. There are 4 triangular black buttons just beneath the display. Look at the one to the far left. Right above this on the display, you should see 'MIC'. To the left of this there should be an asterisk.
2) If there is an asterisk, don't do anything else. Your Microphone is active.
2a) If there is no asterisk, press the back triangular button right beneath 'MIC' once and the asterisk will appear. That activates your microphone.
Without the asterisk the microphone is not active and the caller on the other end will not be able to hear you.
