About NoMAD

What is NoMAD?

NoMAD is an officially supported application deployed by Saint Joseph's University Office of Information Technology.

This utility adds an icon to your menu bar that keeps your SJU credentials securely synced with your university-provided Mac. It also adds shortcuts and other convenient features.

If you need help with NoMAD, please submit a service request.

Why are we using NoMAD?

Depending on your University role, you must change your SJU password periodically. When you change your password in The Nest, your Mac is not automatically aware of your new password.

NoMAD bridges this gap by keeping your Mac connected to your SJU account, and will detect when your password is changed. This helps you avoid annoying and repetitive Keychain prompts and other authentication frustrations.

Signing In

NoMAD automatically launches when you log in to your Mac. The first time NoMAD opens you'll be asked to sign in with your SJU login and password.

NoMAD will securely store your SJU account credentials in your keychain.

NOTE: If you're seeing this dialog box repeatedly, please reset your keychain, then try logging in again to NoMAD.

Using NoMAD

NoMAD runs in your menu bar in the upper right corner of your Mac screen. When you're on campus and connected to the SJU network (wired or wireless), you'll see a triangle icon with a green check.

When you click the NoMAD menu bar icon you'll see a list of options:

  • Change Password will open your default web browser to the password reset form in The Nest
  • Get Software will open Managed Software Center to help you install University provided apps
  • Get Help will open the SJU IT website to allow you to create and view service tickets, as well as use our knowledge base

Password Sync

NoMAD helps you keep your Mac's password in sync with your SJU account. This avoids issues with your keychain when you change your password.

When you change your SJU password, NoMAD will detect the change within a few minutes and send you a notification:

Click Sign In to re-synchronize your Mac password with your new SJU account password. You'll be prompted to sign in with your new SJU password:

Afterwards, you'll be prompted to sync your SJU password with your Mac's account:

Please enter your previous SJU password, then click the Sync button.

NoMAD Off Campus

If you're not on campus, NoMAD won't be able to connect with your SJU account. You won't see the green check in the menu bar, and you won't be prompted to sign in to NoMAD.

If you change your password while off campus, NoMAD won't detect the change until the next time you connect to the SJU network. However, if you're off campus and can connect to VPN, NoMAD will function normally.
