Microsoft Office 2019 - Availability and Requirements

Microsoft Office 2019 Pro Plus will become standard on new university-issued computers beginning November 2019.   This means that if you receive a new computer to replace your existing computer, it will come with Office 2019 Pro Plus installed on the new computer.

For Windows, the standard release will include:

  • Word 2019 (64-bit)
  • Access 2019 (64-bit)
  • Excel 2019 (64-bit)
  • PowerPoint 2019 (64-bit)
  • Outlook 2019 (64-bit)

For Macs, the standard release will include:

  • Word
  • Excel
  • PowerPoint

At SJU, we expect to take full advantage of the 64-bit aspect of this latest release to accelerate data analytics both in Microsoft Excel and in Microsoft Access.  To see other new features available in Office 2019 click here.

Windows

If you are interested in having Office 2019 installed on your existing computer, it is important to review some of the new requirements:

As part of the installation, Office 2019 will remove all components of Office 2016.  For example, if you already have Word 2016, Excel 2016, Powerpoint 2016, Access 2016, OneNote 2016, Publisher 2016, Visio 2016 and Project 2016 -- or any other Office 2016 component, it will be removed.  Office 2019 and Office 2016 cannot both coexist on the same computer.  While your Office data (documents, spreadsheets, powerpoint slides, etc) will remain intact, Office configurations will be reset back to their default settings as if installed fresh.

If you had Office applications such as Visio, Project, or Publisher 2010, 2013, or 2016, as indicated these will also be uninstalled, however, you will still be entitled to re-install the the 2019 equivalent.

  • Visio 2019
  • Project 2019
  • Publisher 2019

*NOTES*
1) If you use Outlook for your SJU email, then you will need to have the G Suite Sync for Microsoft Outlook (re)installed and a full sync will need to be completed to regain access to your Outlook email, calendar items, to-do lists, task and other items.  Please be aware that you will not continue to have your "auto-complete" email addresses as they will not carry over to the new version, and you may need to set your email signature again, re-create persona(s), or redo other modifications that you had made in the past

2) There are a few users on campus that use SQL Navigator.  The existing version of SQL Navigator, most likely version 6.7 (32bit), will need to be upgraded to version 7.4 or higher (64bit).

If you are still interested in having Microsoft Office 2019 Pro Plus installed on your SJU issued Windows computer, you'll need to be on campus at the time of install and allow about an hour for the upgrade.  Please click this Software Installation Link to initiate your request.  Please let us know if you have any of the non-standard applications installed and if they would need to be installed again.  Please also let us know if you are a current Outlook user so that we can help explain what to expect during and after the upgrade.

macOS

Beginning November 2019, users will be prompted to update to Office 2019 within Managed Software Center.
