What is it?

ArcGIS is an architecture geographic information system (GIS) for working with maps and geographic information. It is used for creating and using maps, compiling geographic data, analyzing mapped information, sharing and discovering geographic information, using maps and geographic information in a range of applications, and managing geographic information in a database.

The system provides an infrastructure for making maps and geographic information available throughout an organization, across a community, and openly on the Web.

Note for Student Accounts

  • A student must be enrolled in a for credit course that has been identified before the term start.
  • Student accounts are only valid for one semester and will need to be requested by the course instructor each term.
  • All Content and Accounts will be removed 30 days after the end of the semester. If the students wish to retain any projects or files, they must download them to a local drive or a Google Drive.  Files and Data must be downloaded individually by the student.
  • A Credit limit of 100 will be applied to all student accounts. Overrides will require written explanation and estimation of needed credits from the instructor.  Article: Understanding Credits
