*We do NOT recommend Chromebooks or Tablet devices as your primary device. Much of the technology used by your professors is not compatible with these devices. These devices will not be supported due to incompatibility.
At SJU, all students are required to have their own laptop to bring to campus that supports their classroom learning and facilitates online testing.

Haub School of Business Students
All Haub School of Business (HSB) students are required to have the Windows Operating System. If you are an Apple (Mac) user, some Macs may support installing Windows alongside macOS. Instructions for doing so can be found here. If your Mac has an M1 or higher chip, you will need to look for alternative programs to install Windows such as Parallels or VMWare Fusion. For support in installing Windows on a Mac, please contact the Technology Service Center.
HSB Graduate students are also recommended to have a headset with microphone for online Zoom sessions.
Office 365 and Virus Protection
All SJU students are entitled to Office 365 free of charge. Instructions for installation can be found here. (Office 365 cannot be installed on a Chromebook)
Antivirus/Anti-Malware Security Software
Recommended for Windows users: Any security software that offers live protection for virus and malware threats. The recommended "free" solution is Microsoft Defender Antivirus, which is part of the built-in "Windows Security" component of Windows 10 and 11.
What if my laptop breaks while on campus?
The Office of Information Technology (OIT) can assist with wireless connectivity, SJU applications, and printing issues. While OIT can make recommendations on hardware or software issues, all break/fix issues are the responsibility of the student and must be completed by the student or a 3rd party.
Information on our Loaner Laptop Policy and how to request one can be found here.
Students in Need
If you do not have a laptop and have a demonstrated financial need, please reach out to the Office of Student Success. We want every student at SJU to have access to the technology they need to be successful in their academic endeavours!
