Student Hiring Eligibility / Types of Student Employment

Who is eligible?

Eligibility for student employment requires the individual to be currently enrolled at our institution.  If the person is not a currently enrolled SJU student (i.e. even if they want to work two weeks after they graduate), they must proceed through the temporary request to hire process. This includes students from other universities as they are also considered temporary staff.

Types of Student Employment

  1. A Student Worker is a student (undergraduate or graduate) that will be receiving payment by your department.
  2. A Federal Work Study (FWS) student is an undergraduate student or Adult Learner (undergraduate student) who is eligible to work under this program based on their financial need.  The student will be receiving payment through the FWS Program.  The Federal Work Study program is managed by Heather Murray in the Financial Aid Office.

  3. A Graduate Assistant (GA)/Teaching Assistant/Research Assistant is a registered graduate student who will be receiving payment by your department AND receiving a tuition benefit from the department.
